How it works
Browse our 4x4 and camper fleet, then request a free quote, we reply with availability, pricing and honest vehicle advice, or book instantly online if you already know what you need.
Once you are happy with the quote and have chosen your extras, we confirm your booking and reserve your vehicle for your dates.
On arrival day we collect you from the airport, free of charge. After a hands-on handover, usually 45 to 90 minutes, you sign your final contract and off you go.

Our story
Advanced Car Hire has been family-owned and run from Windhoek since 2003. We are not a global chain. Every vehicle that leaves our yard has been personally checked by our own team, and every journey starts with a real conversation with someone who knows these roads.
We specialise in self-drive 4x4 and camper rentals for travellers who want the freedom of the open road without the fear of being stranded on it. That is why every rental includes GPS tracking, 24/7 roadside support, unlimited kilometres and a free tyre and glass waiver, not as marketing extras, but because we know what can actually go wrong on a Namibian gravel road, and we have built our service to prevent it.
From your first enquiry to a hands-on handover, usually 45 to 90 minutes covering everything from 4x4 operation to your camping equipment, we make sure you leave knowing exactly how to handle the vehicle, the roads, and whatever the journey brings.
Our fleet runs from the compact Suzuki Jimny to fully kitted Toyota Land Cruiser campers, ready for self-drive trips into Namibia, Botswana, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Malawi and more. We are also part of a small family of Namibian businesses: our sister company Exclusive Transfer Services runs airport and lodge transfers and private chauffeur-driven travel across Namibia, and Zania Farm is our family’s working farm and farm stay in the Kalahari.
Camping rentals
Turn-key overland campers with rooftop tents and full expedition kit, over 30 equipment options, from fridges and recovery gear to bedding and cooking kit, so you can camp self-sufficiently from Sossusvlei to Kaokoland.
One-way rentals (Swakopmund, Cape Town and more), cross-border paperwork for Botswana, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Malawi, and practical add-ons like wifi dongles and extra spares are all available.
Travel add-ons and optional extras can be fitted before you arrive: a vehicle fridge, bedding sets, GPS, a satellite phone, an internet dongle, sand tracks, jerry cans, 2-way radios and baby or booster seats, with a tyre compressor and ammo boxes included free on camping vehicles. Yes, a 4x4 is strongly recommended. Around 90% of the country's roads are gravel, and while you won't engage 4x4 on every route, the high ground clearance and all-terrain tyres make the drive noticeably more comfortable and far better suited to these surfaces.
Yes, all our rentals include unlimited kilometres, so you can explore Namibia freely with no distance caps or extra mileage charges.
Under Namibian law the minimum driving age is 18, so you must be at least 18 years old and have held a valid driver's licence for more than one year. This applies to all drivers across our 4x4 and camping fleet.
Yes. A valid credit card and a pre-authorisation deposit are required at collection: N$15,000 for rentals within Namibia and N$25,000 for travel outside Namibia. On arrival at our Windhoek office we deduct the rental amount only if it has not been paid in advance.
Yes. We collect you from Hosea Kutako International Airport and take you to your guesthouse, then transfer you to our office the following day for collection, all included in your rental price. One airport-to-Windhoek and one Windhoek-to-airport transfer per rental. Complimentary transfers are free within our office hours (Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 17:00); a charge applies to transfers outside these hours.
Yes, every Advanced Car Hire rental includes free tyre and glass cover as standard, across our entire fleet, with no extra charge or add-on required. This covers the first damage to windows or windscreens and up to two damaged tyres during the rental; any further tyre or glass damage after that is handled under the standard terms. This is separate from our Zero Excess Option and gives you extra peace of mind against two of the most common types of damage on Namibia's gravel roads.

Yes. One-way rentals are available across Namibia and the region, including Swakopmund, Sesriem, Victoria Falls, Kasane, Maun, Cape Town and Johannesburg, for a one-way fee quoted per route. See our one-way fees page or ask us to confirm the exact fee for your route.
We strongly advise against it. Animals roam freely and are hard to see after dark, and gravel roads hide corrugations and washouts. Plan each day to reach your lodge or campsite well before sunset, and if you are delayed, slow right down and call our 24-hour line. Our self-drive safety guide covers the full picture.
