What Does a 4x4 Rental in Namibia Actually Cost?
Advanced Car Hire's daily rate already includes standard safety and recovery equipment, and camping vehicles include full camping gear. The main variables that change your total cost are which vehicle you choose, which season you travel in, and which optional extras you add.
What's included in the daily rate at no extra cost?
Two spare wheels (one on the Fortuner), a car jack and tools, two warning triangles, a tyre compressor, a tow rope, a first aid kit, jumper cables and four rubber floor mats. On camping-fleet vehicles, a rooftop tent, full kitchen set and camping equipment are included as well. A Tyre & Glass Waiver is also included automatically.
Is low season actually cheaper than peak season?
Yes. Low season runs 1 November to 30 June, peak season runs 1 July to 30 October. As an example, the Suzuki Jimny moves from a low-season daily rate to a noticeably higher peak-season rate, and every vehicle in the fleet follows the same seasonal pattern. Booking outside July to October generally means a lower daily rate for the same vehicle.
What extra fees should I budget for beyond the daily rate?
A one-time N$500 cleaning fee applies to all bookings. A young driver surcharge applies for drivers under 23. Optional extras, GPS, satellite phone, extra fridge capacity, sand tracks, a baby seat, a professional driver or guide, are priced separately and must be pre-booked to guarantee availability.
What is the refundable deposit or excess, and how does it affect cost?
Advanced Car Hire is not a licensed insurer, so cover works as a damage waiver rather than traditional insurance. Standard liability without additional cover is N$45,000 per incident. A Zero Excess upgrade reduces this liability to zero for N$449 per day, available across all vehicle models.
Are there fees I need to know about if I cancel or change extras?
Yes. Booked extras not cancelled at least seven business days before arrival are charged in full. All extras need to be pre-booked to guarantee availability on your travel dates.
Does a cheaper vehicle mean a worse trip?
Not necessarily. The 2022-2023 Hilux/Nissan Navara platform is priced below the 2024-2026 Hilux while offering the same underlying 4x4 capability and support standard, just an earlier model year. The Suzuki Jimny is the most fuel-light and lowest daily-rate vehicle in the fleet, suited to solo travellers or couples on a tighter budget.
